Hello! My name is Taylor Lewis and I will be your intermediate history instructor. I graduated the University of Southern Mississippi in May 2020 with an MA in American history. Prior to that, I attended Grand Valley State University in my home state of Michigan and the Center for International French Studies in Angers, France.
I remember taking American history in eighth grade. My teacher displayed a contagious passion for the past that sparked my interest in the subject. Throughout my college years, I explored a variety of historical topics and presented research at conferences. I absolutely loved discussing history with others and wish to continue doing so at the Galloway School. The study of history gives students a greater understanding of the world in which they live. I also believe that the critical thinking skills developed through reading and writing about history are invaluable to students. Examining history with a critical eye can help them analyze information effectively; an important skill in a world of easily accessible information.
As a teacher, I want to help my students develop crucial skills. However, it is also important that students are engaged. The classes I remember most were the ones that made learning an enjoyable experience. I want to give them the chance to study the past in unique ways and discuss major ideas with their peers. I look forward to exploring history with my Galloway students!
